Rihanna -”Rated R” Album Photoshoot in Berlin

November 21 2009

Rihanna’s violent assault at the hands of pop star boyfriend Chris Brown in February hangs over her fourth album like a dark cloud. The Barbadian pop princess of “Umbrella” is startlingly replaced by the angry 21-year-old who declares “revenge is sweet” on the guns ‘n’ gangstas anthem “G4L” and who claims to be “the hottest bitch in heels right here” over menacing synths on “Hard”. “Rockstar 101”, all attitude and no tune, finds her with “my middle finger up” over a brooding guitar line played by Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Slash.

Angry Rihanna launches into F-word rant after driver was 3mins late

November 21, 2009

Sexy singer Rihanna lost her cool and went on a F-word rant when her driver got three minutes late to pick her up outside a nightclub. "She was with a massive entourage and one was on the phone asking where he was. Suddenly Rihanna started shouting in the face of this guy, saying, 'Where the f**k is my car?'" the Daily Telegraph quoted an insider as telling the Daily Star.

She added: "After another minute, she squawked, 'I mean it guys, you've now got 30 seconds to get me my car or someone is losing their employment. I f**king mean it, 10 seconds and I get nasty'."

The scene ended when the 21-year-old driver finally drove in.

"The driver was so panicked, he almost drove the wrong way down Piccadilly Circus," the source added.

Rihanna's 'Russian Roulette' Video: Dark Arts

14 November, 2009

There's seemingly no bottom to the inky depths Rihanna plumbs in her brand-new "Russian Roulette" video, a dark, claustrophobic descent that's creepier than anything she's ever done before (including the "Disturbia" video), mostly because it's so unrelentingly bleak.

Directed by frequent collaborator Anthony Mandler, bathed in a near-nocturnal pitch (truly, there is no sunlight here), featuring blood and tears and vehicular assault, "Roulette" is unlike anything we've ever seen from Rihanna and, in keeping with the darker tones of her Rated R album, it serves notice that Little Misss Sunshine is gone forever — replaced instead with someone darker, more sinister (she usually wears lingerie and an eye patch).

There is much of the titular gunplay (it's a wonder most of it got by the censors, truth be told) and artfully shot underwater scenes in which Rihanna is pierced by bullets, her blood clouding as her body contorts. There are her shadowy tormentors, who keep her locked away and subject her to all sorts of torture (mostly of the "red smoke" variety). There are scenes of her twisting and pawing in a padded cell. At one point, she is mowed down by a speeding car. "Pon De Replay," this ain't.

"Roulette" is a moody, artful thing, but it's also quite difficult — like the song itself, this isn't your typical pop fare. It's minimal, pulsing, and there is an unspoken tension (which sort of makes sense, since playing Russian roulette isn't exactly a vacation). Rihanna is clearly taking more than a few risks with R — she's stretching her legs and flexing her artistic muscles. Obviously, she has a lot of material to draw from, but the question is, will her fans take her new sound — and style — in stride? Will this song stick at radio stations after the initial fervor surrounding it dissipates?

We'll just have to wait and see. If "Russian Roulette" is any indicator, it's certainly going to be an interesting ride. source: www.mtv.com

Body issues

• Rihanna showed up in this body-hugging re-creation of the Guggenheim Museum at Glamour magazine's Women of the Year Awards at New York's Carnegie Hall on Monday night. "As usual I decided to wear the tightest dress I could find," Rihanna joked about the white mermaid outfit after she made her way slowly to the stage to accept the "back on top" prize.
After staying silent for months following the abuse she suffered at the hands of Chris Brown, Rihanna is now back in the spotlight. She's got several hit new singles on the radio, she recently did an in-depth interview with Dianne Sawyer and now, she's picked up the Glamour Woman of the Year Award. In her acceptance speech, Rihanna thanked her mom, scolded Maya Angelou, and spoke about her PMS. You can't say she doesn't do things her way.
Said Rihanna, "I am shaking right now - I am so nervous, but overwhelmed and honored... to be Glamour's Woman of the Year."
Rihanna accepted her award with tears in her eyes, which she explained with the joke, "I'm PMSed, sorry." Rihanna wasn't done with her comedy act, then explaining that she'd been waiting in the wings because she knew she wouldn't have been able to make it up the stairs in her dress.
